Simplify the American Tax Code

With an innovative spirit and penchant for creativity, American entrepreneurs – and the business community broadly – have played a significant role in making America the nation it is today: a country where any individual can pursue any opportunity if they’re willing to work hard and stay the course.

All too often, though, our government gets in the way. Ronald Reagan once said, “The federal government has taken too much tax money from the people, too much authority from the states, and too much liberty with the Constitution.” We believe smaller government, fewer regulations, and lower taxes are integral to support a prospering economy and thriving families.

Simplifying the tax code should be a top priority. About half of Americans feel their taxes are too high, and the system is unfair. Regardless of political affiliation, a majority of people experience frustration each year during tax season, yet most politicians have accepted the complexities as the status quo. This is unacceptable. In an age where you can buy anything in seconds by tapping your phone, our government should embrace simplicity and technology for the sake of American families.

As we work to simplify our tax system, we should do so in a way that protects businesses. In a government system riddled with red tape, burdensome regulations can stand in the way of profitability. While some regulations are needed to keep people safe on the job and ensure equal opportunity, we should reexamine the government’s role in business and fight to eliminate needless regulations and mandates that do nothing but stifle growth and limit job creation.

In the United States, everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue happiness and economic prosperity, and we should confront systems that pose a threat to that ideal.
